EAST POINT-Despite negativity and rumors, things are moving forward and going ahead for the city, Mayor Jannquell Peters told the Keller Williams Realty Governmental Affairs committee on Tuesday.

“We want to make your job easier by being a community partner. We are here to give you the most reliable information about the City of East Point,” she said. “We are improving our tax base by making it easier to do business here.”

Many have complained about the state of affairs among the city council, high utility rates and the overall negative perception of the city over the years. Peters told the audience that the city is working on problems but there is much positivity to report in the midst of the perception. Recently, the city was named the Most Dangerous Suburb in America. A later Home Rule News (HRN) investigation disputed many of the claims as crime has increase and decreased in various areas.

“One issue that we have here is misinformation and how some media tend to take things out of proportion to make a story,” she said. “There are many things we have done that largely go unreported in the news.”

She mentioned the development occurring along with relationships in the Tri-Cities and South Fulton areas.
